Our Mission
We are committed to providing innovative devices for localized delivery of radiation to effectively treat cancer with minimal disruption to patients lives.
Company Overview
Cancer is never about one person.
People with cancer are so much more than just patients. They have families, friends, and employers that depend on them. NAS Medical develops and improves radiation treatments so that they can more quickly return to their full and active lives.
Radiation delivery from the experts in radiation.
For products to deliver localized radiation, what better source is there than a company that specializes in radiation? Our experience in manufacturing quality radiation products goes back nearly two decades.
NAS Medical (Nasdaq: NASM) started in 1990 as a manufacturer of industrial radioactive sources under the name of North American Scientific (NAS). We continue to offer radioactive standards and sources manufactured to exacting forms and geometries that, in turn, serve as industry "reference standards." These products serve important roles in the nuclear medicine, calibration, and environmental fields. The customers for these products are diverse - from nuclear power plants and aerospace companies to hospitals and medical equipment manufacturers who use our products to calibrate their equipment.
This expertise in radiation standards formed the basis of our expansion into therapeutic radiation applications. In 1998, we commercialized our first brachytherapy seed. North American Scientific became the first company to manufacture both I-125 and Pd-103 seeds, the two FDA-approved isotopes most widely used in low-dose-rate brachytherapy treatment for prostate cancer. Since then we have steadily expanded our prostate brachytherapy business to include a broader suite of radiation oncology products. With the introduction of ClearPath, we have applied our knowledge of radiation physics to solve the problems of breast cancer treatment for both clinicians and patients.
Meet our leadership
NAS Medical has assembled a strong, balanced leadership team to focus on developing radiation cancer treatments that result in improved outcomes and a better patient experience.
Leading companies in the development of minimally invasive medical devices is the specific domain of our president and chief executive officer, John B Rush. Prior to joining NAS Medical, Rush served as president and CEO of Sanarus Medical, a leading developer of minimally invasive medical devices for diagnosing and treating breast disease. Before Sanarus, Rush was president and CEO of Micro Therapeutics, Inc. (now owned by ev3, Inc.), a publicly traded medical device company focused on the treatment of cerebral and peripheral vascular disorders. At NAS Medical, Rush has assembled a senior management team with many years of experience in medical devices.
Troy Barring, senior vice president and chief operating officer, is the driving force behind the company's product development and market growth. Barring brings to NAS Medical a breadth of experience in operations, research and development, marketing, sales, and service. Prior to joining NAS Medical, Barring headed the worldwide operations, R&D, and the development and deployment of global services at Biosense Webster, a leader in the science behind the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.
At NAS Medical, we are committed to providing innovative devices for localized delivery of radiation to effectively treat cancer with minimal disruption to patients lives.
